U9 | Els espais i les infraestructures per a la bicicleta

La bicicleta és un mitjà de transport amb necessitats pròpies a l’espai públic, si bé són d’un cost molt baix si es comparen amb les que requereix el trànsit rodat a motor. Fins i tot poden arribar a tenir un cost zero en els entorns urbans en què els diversos mitjans de transport conviuen tranquil·lament i no és imprescindible diferenciar-ne els espais.

Aquesta demanda de serveis se circumscriu bàsicament al carril bici, als aparcaments públics i a la senyalització específica. Amb relació al carril bici, es tracta d’una via de circulació destinada específicament al trànsit de bicicletes, segregada de la resta d’espais viaris dedicats als altres sistemes de desplaçament.

El carril bici pot estar delimitat simplement mitjançant senyalització horitzontal –franges contínues de color blanc i pictogrames sobre el paviment–, o incorporar elements d’una mida inferior que facin de barrera física i ofereixin més protecció al ciclista. També incorpora senyals verticals amb símbols indicatius i, en els punts en què interacciona amb el trànsit rodat, semàfors específics.

Cada municipi, a l’hora de planificar la seva xarxa de carril bici, ha de triar habitualment la solució que s’adapti millor a les seves necessitats i a la seva configuració urbana, tenint en compte la seguretat del ciclista i la de la resta d’usuaris de la via pública. És per això que caldrà tenir en compte criteris com el volum i la velocitat del trànsit, el volum previst de ciclistes, l’espai existent i les característiques de l’entorn urbà més immediat.
