U4 | La bicicleta, les emissions i el soroll: medi ambient!

La bicicleta és un mitjà de transport no contaminant i lliure de sorolls que no provoca cap efecte negatiu en la salut dels ciutadans. No emet cap dels gasos que afecten la qualitat de l'aire urbà –òxids de nitrogen (NOx), hidrocarburs (HC) o monòxid de carboni (CO), partícules i altres–, fet que ajuda a reduir els nivells de contaminació a la ciutat.

La bicicleta tampoc contribueix a potenciar el canvi climàtic, ja que no emet gasos d'efecte d’hivernacle (òxid de carboni o CO2, principalment). Tot el contrari del que passa amb els vehicles a motor, que són la causa principal de contaminació atmosfèrica i acústica, i l'origen d'impactes ambientals tant en l’àmbit local com en el global.

Cal tenir en compte que, actualment, el transport és una de les principals fonts d’emissió de gasos contaminants i de gasos d'efecte d’hivernacle al món. L'augment del nombre de vehicles a motor i de la distància recorreguda genera un gran volum de gasos que perjudiquen la qualitat de l'aire i la salut de les persones, sobretot a les ciutats. Un altre aspecte que cal tenir en compte en relació amb el trànsit de vehicles a motor a la ciutat és el soroll, ja que ocasiona entorn d'un 80% de la contaminació acústica a les zones urbanes.
