U3 | La bicicleta i el consum d’energia: eficiència!

La bicicleta és el mitjà de transport mecànic més eficient en termes de consum d’energia, ja que no necessita cap mena de combustible per a moure's. L’única energia que s'inverteix en el desplaçament és la que alimenta la persona. En general, consumeix un 2% de l’energia que utilitza un cotxe per a fer el mateix desplaçament.

Aquesta dada contrasta amb el fet que el transport i la mobilitat mundial ja consumeixen més del 40% de l’energia primària (petroli, fonamentalment), i depèn gairebé exclusivament dels combustibles d'origen fòssil.

Una part important d'aquest consum es deu a la mobilitat rodada en l’àmbit urbà (transport de persones i mercaderies), sobretot perquè el cotxe es fa servir habitualment en trajectes curts que es podrien fer perfectament amb bicicleta i que, per les característiques del recorregut i dels vehicles mateixos, comporten un consum elevat d’energia, així com una producció elevada d'emissions.
