U11 | Els usos urbans de la bicicleta

Les dimensions habituals de les ciutats europees permeten fer servir la bicicleta com a mitjà de transport per als desplaçaments al lloc de treball o al centre d’estudis.

La forma com les empreses solen resoldre la mobilitat dels treballadors, per exemple, té un gran impacte ambiental i social (emissions, exclusió social per falta de vehicle a motor propi, accidents de circulació, congestió viària, absentisme laboral, etc.), així com efectes negatius importants sobre el trànsit urbà.

Si es té en compte que la majoria dels desplaçaments urbans que es fan a Europa són inferiors als 5 km –distància ideal per a ser recorreguda en uns 15-20 minuts–, la bicicleta pot resoldre perfectament les necessitats de mobilitat de gran part de la població quan es trasllada al treball o al centre d’estudis, ja que pot substituir el cotxe en molts casos.

La presència de més bicicletes als carrers significa menys congestió del trànsit i menys temps perdut, reduir els nivells de contaminació i de soroll, reduir el consum de recursos energètics fòssils, disminuir el cost econòmic associat a l’ús del vehicle privat, i més espai disponible per al transport públic col·lectiu i altres sistemes de transport sostenible.

El fet que aquests ciutadans canviïn de mitjà de transport contribueix, per tant, a millorar la qualitat de vida de les ciutats, repercuteix positivament en la salut dels usuaris de la bicicleta i, a més, afavoreix la indústria d’aquest mitjà de transport.  

Com evitar el robatori de la bicicleta? Per a evitar patir el robatori de la bicicleta, és important fixar-la al punt d’aparcament mitjançant una cadena, un cable blindat o un altre element de seguretat, encara que només la deixem durant poca estona. Si l’aparcament és a l’interior del centre de formació, el risc de robatori, en principi, es redueix. En cas de robatori, cal denunciar-lo ràpidament a la policia. Disposar de la factura de compra, d’una fotografia i d’una descripció detallada ajuda a identificarla i recuperar-la.

Consells per iniciar-se en la bicicleta per la ciutat

  • Utilitzar itineraris que siguin coneguts, curts i tranquils.
  • Circular per la vorera o per les zones de vianants, als llocs on estigui permès.
  • No intentar aprendre-ho tot el primer dia.
  • Provar la bicicleta durant el cap de setmana, ja que el trànsit és més tranquil.
  • Practicar el domini de la bicicleta i de les habilitats associades: canvi de marxa, subjecció del manillar amb una sola mà, senyalització dels girs, etc.
  • Provar recorreguts més llargs a mesura que es vagi guanyant seguretat.

Un cop segurs:

  • Estudiar el recorregut que serà habitual amb "ulls de ciclista".
  • Preveure on es podrà aparcar la bicicleta al punt de destinació.
  • Fer el recorregut d’anada i tornada durant el cap de setmana.
  • Iniciar el desplaçament amb prou temps.
  • Desplaçar-se practicant la circulació defensiva i preventiva.
  • Estar sempre pendent del moviment dels altres.
  • Consells per a una major seguretat del ciclista urbà.
  • Utilitzar rutes i itineraris el més segurs possible.
  • En circular per la calçada, utilitzar el carril de la dreta, circulant pel centre del carril i mantenint una distància prudencial amb la resta dels vehicles.
  • Utilitzar, quan n’hi hagi, el carril bici i respectar la senyalització específica per a bicicletes.
  • Mantenir una distància prudencial amb la vorera i amb els cotxes aparcats.
  • Respectar les persones que es desplacen a peu quan se circula per la vorera o pels carrers per a vianants, adequant la velocitat a la d’aquestes persones i sense sobrepassar els 10 km/h.
  • Anunciar les maniobres d’avançament o de canvi de direcció amb prou temps perquè et vegin.
  • Fer respectar els drets del ciclista urbà utilitzant el timbre o alçant la veu als espais on es té prioritat.
  • Escollir bé el tipus de bicicleta per als desplaçaments urbans.
  • Mantenir la bicicleta en bon estat i revisar-la periòdicament.
  • Practicar la intermodalitat combinant la bicicleta amb el transport públic col·lectiu per fer els desplaçaments més llargs.
  • Contractar una assegurança de responsabilitat civil.
  • Establir contacte amb altres ciclistes urbans per actuar de forma col·lectiva en favor de la bicicleta
