Per fomentar la utilització de la bicicleta entre els joves és fonamental conèixer primer els seus hàbits de desplaçament. Mitjançant una senzilla enquesta de mobilitat es pot obtenir informació molt precisa sobre quins són aquests hàbits, quin mitjà de transport solen utilitzar i què itineraris segueixen per anar de casa fins al seu centre d'estudis.
A partir de les dades obtingudes amb l'enquesta, és possible realitzar un treball pràctic amb els alumnes que reflecteixi mitjançant gràfics i mapes seves pautes de desplaçament (en funció del gènere, l'edat, la
proximitat al centre, els motius personals, etc.) i que caracteritzi l'institut en termes de mobilitat sostenible i segura. Les qüestions a plantejar poden ser les següents:
- Gènere i edat
- Distància entre el domicili i l'institut
- Mitjà de transport que utilitza per anar a l'institut (a peu, bicicleta, transport públic, motocicleta, automòbil ...)
- Per què utilitza aquest mitjà de transport (rapidesa, comoditat, seguretat, economia ...)
Les enquestes haurien de ser utilitzades amb una doble funcionalitat: d'una banda recollida d'informació i, de l'altra, constituir una eina de sensibilització i dinamització de la participació de la comunitat escolar. Com a resultat de tot el procés, es proposaran els itineraris que s'adeqüen millor per als cursos enquestats, les propostes d'actuació concretes i les millores que s'han de fer en els accessos i els itineraris.
